Privacy Policy

Last updated 21 June 2026

UniTalkie is built for university students, and we keep what we collect to what we need to run a calm, safe place to talk. This policy explains what we collect, why, how we protect it, and the choices you have.

1. Who we are

UniTalkie is operated by UniTalkie FZ-LLC, based in Downtown Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data across the UniTalkie website (unitalkie.com) and the UniTalkie app (app.unitalkie.com).

If you have any questions, contact us at support@unitalkie.com.

2. Who can use UniTalkie

UniTalkie is built for university students. To create an account you need a valid email address from a university we support, and sign-up is verified against that university's email domain. UniTalkie is intended for people who are 18 or older (or the age of majority where they live).

UniTalkie is an independent platform. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any university. Academic details (your university, college, and major) are used only to organize student communication.

3. Information you give us

When you create an account and use UniTalkie, you provide:

  • Account details — your email address, password, and name.
  • Profile — username, optional first and last name, bio, profile picture, and your academic information (university, college, major, and graduation year).
  • Content you create— messages in direct chats and groups, attachments (images, files, and voice notes), reactions, mentions, polls, events, and saved (“library”) messages.
  • Support requests — anything you send us when you contact support.
  • Agreement records — the date you accepted these terms and this policy.

4. Information we collect automatically

When you use UniTalkie, we collect some data automatically to keep the service running and secure:

  • Session & device data — sign-in session identifiers, IP address, approximate location (such as the country of your last sign-in), and basic browser and device information.
  • Activity & security signals — sign-in times, last-seen time, two-factor status, failed sign-in attempts, and rate-limiting counters used to protect your account.
  • Diagnostics — where enabled, aggregated error and performance data to help us find and fix problems.

5. How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Provide and operate UniTalkie — sign you in, deliver your messages, and run groups, events, and notifications.
  • Keep accounts and content secure — two-factor authentication, account-lockout protection, checking new passwords against known-breach datasets, and scanning uploaded files for malware.
  • Communicate with you — one-time codes, security alerts, and important service messages.
  • Keep UniTalkie safe — moderating content and enforcing our Terms & Conditions.
  • Comply with our legal obligations.

What we don't do:we don't sell your data, we don't use advertising or cross-site tracking, and we don't share your messages with third parties except as described in this policy or where required by law.

6. Message content and encryption

Your data is encrypted in transit using TLS. UniTalkie does not currently offer end-to-end encryption: messages and files are stored on our systems, and our staff may access content where strictly necessary — for example to investigate abuse, provide support, protect security, or comply with the law.

Because of this, please don't share highly sensitive information (such as passwords, payment card numbers, or government identifiers) through UniTalkie.

7. How we store and protect your data

We host your account data in a secure database and store uploaded files with a cloud storage provider. To protect your information, we use measures including:

  • Passwords hashed with Argon2id and an additional secret key, and checked against known-breach datasets;
  • Encryption in transit (TLS) for data moving between your device and our servers;
  • Optional two-factor authentication and automatic lockout after repeated failed sign-ins;
  • Malware scanning of uploaded files;
  • Rate limiting and audit logging of sensitive account actions.

No online service can be completely secure. If a data breach affects you, we'll notify you and the relevant authorities as required by applicable law.

8. Service providers

We work with a small number of trusted providers that process data on our behalf, under contracts that require them to protect it:

ProviderWhat they help us do
Cloudflare R2Storage of uploaded files, media, and avatars
Managed cloud hosting (e.g. Railway / Supabase)Database and application hosting
ResendSending transactional email and one-time codes
hCaptcha (Intuition Machines)Bot and abuse protection during sign-up and sign-in
VercelWebsite hosting and privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics
SentryError and performance monitoring (where enabled)

We may update this list as our service evolves and will give notice of material changes.

9. International data transfers

UniTalkie and our providers may process and store data in countries outside your own (for example in the United Arab Emirates, the European Union, or the United States). Where we transfer data internationally, we use appropriate safeguards as required by applicable data-protection law.

10. How long we keep your data

We keep your personal data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your account and associated private data — such as sessions, two-factor secrets, notifications, push tokens, and group memberships.

Some information may remain after deletion where necessary: messages you sent in shared conversations may be retained for the integrity of those conversations, with your account no longer linked to them; and we keep limited security and audit records, plus anything we are legally required to retain. Deleted messages are hidden immediately. One-time codes and sign-in tokens expire automatically.

11. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal data — including to access, correct, delete, or restrict its use, and to object to certain processing. You can exercise many of these directly:

  • Access & correction— view and edit your profile in the app's settings.
  • Deletion— delete your account at any time from settings (we'll ask for your password to confirm).
  • Notifications — manage email and in-app notification preferences in settings.
  • Other requests — to request a copy of your data or exercise any other right, email support@unitalkie.com.

We'll respond to requests within the timeframe required by law.

12. Children's privacy

UniTalkie is intended for university students aged 18 or older. We don't knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a minor has provided us with data, contact us and we'll remove it.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email.
